What’s Happening at St. Jacob

 Awana Children’s Ministry

August 24, 2019
Join us for Awana registration and campfire.  Enjoy roasting a hotdog, cooking a marshmallow, or making a s’more. Registration is $10.00 per child.  Our regular Awana program will begin September 4, 2019. We will meet Wednesdays from 6-7:30 pm. 
 
 
Community Garden

The community garden was officially planted Sunday, June 2, but plots are still available. If you are interested in planting, call Sean Kerr at 330-309-4465.
** Those who have planted, remember to check your plots for produce that’s ready to harvest!

 WELCA Triennial Gathering

The Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of American Triennial Gathering will be held in Phoenix July 16-20, 2020. Initial planning is beginning for those interested in attending. Please see LaShell if interested. 

 

 
 
 

Outreach Projects

 
* Canal Fulton S.A.L.T Box food pantry at St. John Lutheran in Canal Fulton is in need of cereal, canned soup, canned fruit, and microwavable pasta.
 
* Refuge of Hope is in desperate need of New Men’s underwear.  We will be collecting donations through August. 
 
* 10 Million Pop Tabs for Ronald McDonald House Charities challenge.  Put your Pop Tabs in the container in the Narthex
 

Upcoming Outreach:

Alzheimer’s Walk September 28 at Massillon Washington High School. Registration begins at 8:30 with a ceremony at 9:30 and the walk begins at 9:45. If you would like to register or donate contact Joanne Rogers at 330-284-2054 or email w43j48@yahoo.com. So far we have raised $270.00 and have five walkers. Our goal is to raise $2,000 and have twelve walkers.

Sustainability

Worship: Please join us. Attend St. Jacob services and activities to sustain our church through worship, praise, prayer, and fellowship.
 
Church Council needs you! Chairpersons are needed for Stewardship and Parish Ed. boards. All boards could use additional members to participate.
 
Vacation Bible School  will be held July 20. Awana participants are invited!
 
Attendance continues to decline in yearly average.
 
Music: Worship board is continuing to search for an organist.
 
Financial status: Currently (6/12/2019) we are at a loss of $2,754.
 
Utilities: Gas rates reviewed. Recommendation to stay in the current arrangement.
 
Audit: Committee meets June 22
 
Church Vitality: Council is reviewing information and discussing the best ways to present it to the congregation.

  Evangelism

Euchre Tournaments — 20 attended in May. Tournaments are held the second Saturday of every month. New players welcome.
 
Community Garden: About 25 people planted and picnicked on June 2. 
 
Church picnic is planned for August.

Received thank you notes from Ronald Mc Donald House of Akron and Lutheran Outdoor Ministries.

School Supplies needed by July 22 for distribution from the Salvation Army by August 7.
